Description
Hot Chicks is Obida “Oz” Abu-Zareefeh’s halal fried chicken restaurant at North Kansas City’s Iron District container park — one of two halal-certified concepts in the park, opened spring 2026. Oz is the next generation of the Abu-Zareefeh family behind Sido’s Mediterranean Cuisine; his brother Murad collaborated on Hot Chicks’ name, logo, mascot, and menu before the Sido family began relocating to Chicago to expand their Mediterranean brand. The Hot Chicks concept blends Texas-sized portions, Kentucky-style crunch, and Nashville heat levels: chicken is marinated for 24 hours and double-battered before frying. Five heat tiers run from Bare Chick (no heat) through Shy Chick, Bold Chick, and Firestorm to Devil’s Heat (Carolina reaper). Menu anchors are the tenders and the Zinger Twister — tenders folded into a toasted tortilla with pepper mayo, tomatoes, lettuce, and melted cheese. KCUR, Startland News, and The Pitch all covered the spring 2026 Iron District debut. Oz has expressed franchise expansion goals.
Tier classification
Tier pending — Obida “Oz” Abu-Zareefeh KC origin. The Abu-Zareefeh family has operated Sido’s Mediterranean in Kansas City long enough to build a restaurant presence and now expand to Chicago. Oz is described as “next generation” — which could mean he was born or raised in Kansas City (Tier 1) or came from Jordan/Palestine and built his life here (Tier 2). No press source specifies his birthplace or upbringing. If KC-born/raised as part of an immigrant family that settled here, this is Tier 1 — the “pride + dedication rooted in KC” story of a second-generation kid building his own thing while his family expands elsewhere. If Oz himself immigrated, Tier 2 (Jordanian-Palestinian family, KC-dedicated). “ — check Oz’s Instagram bio or contact Iron District.
