Sweet Dream Donuts is a drive-thru donut and coffee shop at 1302A Platte Falls Road in Platte City, open every day from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the former LC’s Hamburgers building near the I-29 interchange. It opened in the fall of 2021 as the southernmost unit of a small northwest-Missouri chain built by Houn “Cindy” Hourn, a Tennessee-based owner who, after a family tragedy in the Memphis pawn-shop business, followed a friend’s Smithville donut shop into Missouri and opened stores in St. Joseph, Savannah and Maryville before Platte City. Hand-cut yeast donuts, long johns, apple fritters, maple-bacon, kolaches, breakfast sandwiches, boba and smoothies; reviewers call it the best donut in town.

Description

The shop sits on Platte Falls Road just off the I-29 / Highway 92 interchange, in the cluster of highway businesses around the Ramada — the former LC’s Hamburgers drive-in, which explains the drive-thru lane and the grab-and-go layout.123 It opens at 5 a.m. every day; the donuts are fried in the small hours (the owner described a 2-to-5 a.m. production window at her Maryville shop) in an oil she says keeps the dough from sticking and lets the product hold for days.4

The case is broad for a small-town shop: apple and pineapple donuts, old-fashioneds, bear claws, long johns, apple fritters, cinnamon bites, a maple-bacon, filled and sprinkled donuts, plus kolaches (a jalapeño kolache is a customer favorite), croissants and biscuits.13 The chain’s savory menu includes breakfast sandwiches and burritos, wraps, bagel sandwiches and biscuits and gravy; drinks run from coffee and cappuccino to smoothies and bubble tea.45 Phone orders are taken for reunions, meetings, holiday parties and weddings.1 Reviewers on aggregator sites praise the long johns, the “buttery” kolaches, fast service at the window, and “the guy who runs this place” (October 2025).3

Ownership and history

Houn Hourn, who goes by Cindy, built Sweet Dream Donuts in northwest Missouri from a base in Tennessee.4 The Maryville Forum told her story in July 2021: in 2013 she and her husband, Virak Hean, owned three jewelry-and-pawn stores near Memphis; after the stores were robbed four times, and her husband was shot and killed in the fourth robbery, she closed them. Two years later she went into real estate and bought a laundromat in Tennessee. A visit to a friend who owns a donut shop in Smithville, Missouri, drew her to the state — “There’s a lot of crime there, but then I came to Missouri … I liked the quiet.” She opened two Sweet Dream shops in St. Joseph and one in Savannah, was fitting out a fifth in Maryville’s former Bank Midwest building in summer 2021, and said Platte City would follow.4 The Platte County Landmark added that she has a hospitality background and formal culinary training in Tennessee.1

The Platte City shop was open by November 2021, when the Landmark profiled it under the headline “Living a Sweet Dream”: four locations at that point, five employees hired and trained, and franchise expansion under consideration. “Customers won’t have to drive far to enjoy their favorite donut,” Hourn said.1 The official site today lists two stores, Platte City and Savannah; the St. Joseph and Maryville units are not on it, and their status is unresearched.6 The Instagram account describes the business as “family-owned.”5 The (901) phone number on the Platte City listing is a Memphis-area number — the owner’s — consistent with an operator still based outside Missouri.64

Re-check 2026-09-08 (/compile). Confirmed unchanged, with one addition: the site’s ordering button points at the bare checkout.menufy.com host with no store slug, so there is no first-party Menufy URL to fetch even with a renderer. (oishi-shawnee fails the same way — a Menufy link with no store path is a recurring dead end worth recognizing on sight.)

The official site publishes no menu and its online ordering is switched off; the older menu domain (sweetdreamdonut.com/menu.aspx) no longer resolves.
